Another week begins with the threat of no ECAs (Extra Curricular Activities) in Ontario schools, and as a student who lived through this in Quebec in the 1970s, oh freaking joy! In the ’70s in Quebec (or at least in Montreal in the PSBGM), teacher strikes were a normal thing, and most of my High School career was spent with no ECAs, which creates a pretty lousy environment to go to school. Will this tactic work in the Teacher’s Battle Against Tyrannyâ„¢ my guess is no. The wage freeze will stay in place (unless the Liberals call an election and the NDP get into power, in which case there may be even deeper cuts (OK, that is a Bob Rae shot, my apologies)). Watch for a commentary by me on Unions in the near future.
Autumn is here (mostly), which means it’s time to turn off the Air Conditioning, get the furnace ready, and rake leaves. That sentence alone makes me cringe, but we also need to start thinking about the end of the year, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and many other fall activities. The summer seems to be over; bring on the Autumn!
As for the past week on my Twitter feed, lots of interesting Oldie but Goody posts from the Archives:
- Sunday Banking and Catsup was talking about the new idea of Sunday Banking, which has now been around for about a year, seems to be normal now.
- From my very early days Cancel those “old” Credit Cards was a real life situation for me, with old credit cards causing issues with my credit report.
- Who is the Customer Here outlines the reason I changed banks the first time, a very liberating experience.
- I stumbled on one of my best philosophical money points: Only One Thing to do Before You Retire, read it and tell me if you agree.
- Model Home Version 0.1, continues my lament about buying a model home (don’t do it).
- The Financial Shock Collar is a whimsical idea I had to try to control spending with folks who may have impulse spending issues.
- Ever wonder what really bugs me, I literally hate this expression for one.
- My review of Quicken 2012 I still stand by as well.
