With a name like Weiner You’d Think He’d Know Better
Yes indeed, a fun week for comedians and bloggers alike with the U.S. having a new exciting political turmoil dubbed Wiener-gate, where a Congressman sent pictures of his lower abdomen via text messages, hence the title Sexting with Attachments. I love this kind of lurid story, it shows just how much we as readers love this kind of embarrassing and sensational kind of story (no matter what our political leanings). I have told my kids countless times that if you assume every picture ever taken of you will end up on the Internet (and your Grandmother will see it), you will have a safer life on line. For complete disclosure I include one salacious image I have text’ed to my wife.
We also had a new Budget from the Government which really was just a rehash of the previous one. If you want to see the actual ramifications for you in terms of taxes and such check out CRA Budget 2011 News on line to see what new tax changes you might need to take into consideration. There are changes to Tax Credits for Kids, Study Abroad and a large number of other interesting areas. Go find out how this might change your taxes.
No I did not spend the entire week espousing about exposed willies as it were, I did talk about other more interesting topics:
- On Saturday the PBS Newshour had an interesting short on Teaching Kids about Money which is great, and even Grover is interviewed.
- Aside from a rogue page we had more from the throne speech that is. Lots of good karmic statements, but not a lot of substance
- Jim Flaherty gave us a happy redux of his March budget with Budget 2011 Redux remember we had already discussed that one here.
- What does Golf have to do with money? With You need a new set of Golf Clubs I wander around trying to show that value is not always a function of monetary cost.
- In my area of Ottawa we are Living Without Water, which sounds a lot more dramatic, but we are banned from watering our lawns, washing our cars and the like until a water main is fixed. Many of my neighbours are vexed by this, but I am not bothered by it.
- Random Thoughts: Postal Strikes is a recap of last week’s best post.
I actually enjoy all comments (even the ones that question my sanity), and will try to respond to most comments, so please feel free to comment away. For you spammers who continue to inundate me with your drivel, keep it up as well.
Other Financial Bloggers didn’t worry as much about smutty pictures and Wienergate, which is good, so all of these posts are very SFW:
- Michael James discusses the Many Different Definitions of Active and Passive Investing, which was inspired by a post by Boomer and Echo.
- Mike at Money.Smarts gives us some more RESP hints with Sharing a Younger Sibling’s RESP with an Older Sibling, you really should read his book too.
- Financial Highway writes about 4 Cheap Tips for Camping with the family, in my house they are: Don’t go camping, Don’t go camping, Don’t go Camping and Don’t even THINK about camping.
- Larry MacDonald gave us a peek behind the curtain at the Budget 2011 (redux) lockdown with his post Budget 2011: Implications for investors and personal finance. Larry’s stories from the lockdowns are always amusing to hear.
- Million Dollar Journey Ask the Readers: Can One Save too Much Money ? The easy answer is no, if you die with a positive balance (put that in your pipe and smoke it).
- Preet asks So What is Vanguard going to do in Canada ? Which is a good question, both the CC and Michael James asked the same kind of question, so a hot topic with the Real Investment bloggers.
- Sandy at Yes I am Cheap gives us some help with Do-It-Yourself Negotiations of Credit Card Debt, which is useful, but maybe you shouldn’t have built up the debt in the first place?
Carnivals this Week
I also had some submissions accepted to various carnivals, so go have a read of these as well:
- Tom over at Canadian Finance Blog hosted the Canadian Finance Carnival #39 which featured my article Loose Money Continues in May.
- Control your Cash hosted The World’s Most Dangerous Carnival (of Wealth) which featured my scratching Why I’m Not Rich (the 90’s)
- I missed this from a while ago but Evan Carmichael included this blog in his Top 50 Get Out of Debt Blogs, which we appreciate!

Thanks for the link, but no thanks for the foot.
Those are some mighty sexy ankles:)
There has to be a way for us to spice up that foot photo.
Some would think it was rather saucy, for those who have a love for old smelly feet!
Thanks for the links. Try to stay dry this weekend.
There’s just no way to discuss the Weiner story without reverting to teenage immaturity.
Just proves the penis mightier than the sword!
