… and I’ll call Rusty.
This week caught me reminiscing about my childhood. One of my favourite shows (that I watched in Black and White, no less), The Friendly Giant. I was toying with a post about What the Friendly Giant Taught Me About Finances, but honestly, I can’t get enough traction to write that one. If anyone does, please send me a link I’d be fascinated to see how you link the two together. Maybe something about Rusty the Rooster always being half in the bag could be used? The best comment I got all week!
This week it was a short week, but I still managed to write about The Plight of the Turkey, When Do You Start kids in financial programs, Employment Numbers Hovering in September, a quote from my new favorite book Sh T My Dad Says : Overdrafts Summed Up Nicely , and Several Random Thoughts for a Long Weekend. While the commentary on Overdrafts was a little tongue-in-cheek, the essence of the message should not be ignored.
There is one little chair for one of you a bigger one for two to curl up in, and a rocking chair in the middle for someone who likes to rock. Here are some financial posts to help you enjoy those chairs:
- Get Rich Slowly scared the dickens out of me with their post Is Your Spouse Hiding Debt ? I really hope not!
- Michael James tells the sad story of Lotteries in the 3rd World, and how they are even more insidious there.
- Tom at Canadian Finance Blog pointed out How to View Cheap and Free TV in Canada. No mention of the Friendly Giant either.
- Preet seems to be moving to the Globe and Mail for his posts. He asks, Should You Be Your Own Mortgage Lender, I don’t think I should be, I don’t trust myself borrowing that much money.
- Financial Cents over at My Own Advisor thinks I Should Know Who Grace Groner is, I didn’t know, but I do now.
- Financial Highway wrote about Crucial Things to Teach Kids about Money, which is always an important topic.
- Boomer wrote about The Risk of Inflation. However, you also hear of folks warning about DEflation too, which is always confusing.

I’m alive – I swear! I’m going to try and post to my blog again, just need a period of adjustment to the new “job” with the Globe!
Thanks for the mention!
Hey BCM, that post “Is Your Spouse Hiding Debt” just scared the heck outta me too! Thanks for the mention. Have a good weekend!
Forget neither a lender or borrower be. By borrowing from a RRSP, you can be both!
Thanks for the mention!
Thanks for including Boomer’s article on the risk of inflation. I know from working at a University, inflation is real at most levels, and even with tuition freezes in some areas I will still be looking at some steep costs to send my daughter to University in 16 years. I’m sure you know what that’s about… 🙂
Make that you’ll have a giant nest egg
Is that a crack about Rusty the Rooster?
If you pay your self first and invest, you’ll be a giant in retirement?
Good one!
Thanks for the mention. I’m afraid to watch any of the old Friendly Giant episodes and tarnish my happy memories of watching the show.
