Labor Day Thoughts

Karl Marx
Karl Marx

Labor Day weekend is the symbolic end of the summer for both workers and students alike. In Quebec students have already started school again, whereas in Ontario most schools start on September 2nd or at the latest on the 8th (like our universities).

I drag out my yearly picture of Karl Marx to show how the workers (proletariat) control the means of production! To my working brethren and sisters:

Happy Labor Day!

The irony of any child born on Labor Day, is not lost on my easily distracted mind either! Your Mother would never let you forget that one.

Here is your Marxian Moment:

Anyone who knows anything of history knows that great social changes are impossible without feminine upheaval. Social progress can be measured exactly by the social position of the fair sex, the ugly ones included.

What a fun guy eh?

Back to work tomorrow!

  1. Sorry, but if you are going to post a picture of Karl Marx and quote him, at least it should be done when mentioning the “real” labour day, the International Workers’ Day on May 1st. I’m pretty sure that Marx would be more in line with the Second International’s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_International) celebration of the workers day than the “North American” one. BTW this is only celebrated in a handful of English speaking countries as opposed to more than 100 countries that have May 1st as an official holiday.

That being said, Happy Labour Day to you too :).
