What is new this week? Many interesting things to watch have happened so let’s run through a few of them:
- Last week, we got our hands on a desktop shredder that cross-cuts in addition to the simple “straight line” shredding. This feature is essential to me as I cannot afford any information leakage. Initially, we shredded a considerable amount of documents, but the volume has decreased since then. I promise to share a video of me shredding an important document soon. Our friend over at Canadian Capitalist did a good article on Fraud Prevention , that is worth having a look at as well.
- I continue on my hunt for a good second hand car to replace my deteriorating ’94 Honda Accord, and think the best way to find a good used car, is like everything else, via word of mouth. I talk to different people, and hear about friends who might be selling cars, and I talked to my mechanic about where best to get a car as well. Don’t just walk into a dealership, you’ll get what they want you to buy, not what you want.
- The Canadian Dollar continues to approach it’s Yankee Cousin at parity, which continues to scare a humble drone like me. Yes, it means I can go to Ogdensburg and buy cheap basketball shoes, but, if my job goes to China, where do I get the money to go shopping?
- Canadian Banks are getting some fall out from the U.S. below prime mortgage fiasco, which is driving Financial Institution stock prices down.
- The Simpsons movie starts today, and I am going to try to go see it soon!
My Musings for the Week

- Housing Prices, Interest Rates and Friday Thoughts
Have a good weekend, and enjoy the good weather.
I guess mine has a few ‘personality traits’ that I could probably do without. I’m sure almost any car is going to have something that you don’t like.
My adjustable pedals I snapped the gear on, and now the brake doesn’t adjust. They are also notorious for having saggy ass syndrome. and need back struts and/or springs.
I doubt there are very many cars out there that I can get in and no longer compare to the Taurus and find something wrong with them. I’ve rented a few (An Impala, A G6, a G5, Mazda 6, a Seabring and a Neon) but have never found anything quite like my good old trusty Taurus. Though I bet a Mazda Speed 6 would do ;). I had the 4 cylinder one as the rental and it just didn’t “do it” for me.
What about a 2006 Ford Fusion Duratec. It’s a bunch smaller than the Taurus and more aggressive looking, but has the same engine as my car with a 6 speed automatic (5 + overdrive). That would make it a ton sportier than the 4 speed (3 +overdrive) slushbox the Taurus has. If you get the V6 SE or V6 SEL that is. It’s tweaked to 221HP and I bet it’s a very nice fun ride.
Interesting, but I owned a Sable, and it had some quirks that just I can’t get by.

Might i suggest you look for a 2004 Ford Taurus with the Duratec engine in it?
It’s probably bigger than you are looking for, considering it’s 13 inches longer than your current car. My 2002 Duratec is incredibly comfortable for those long trips and it’s as good on gas as many full sized cars can be. The regular engine puts out 155HP which is a little under powered for the size of the car, but the Duratec has 200HP and very little difference in milage. This is a pretty good match of power/size.
Unless you are looking for an incredibly compact car or something the Taurus is often overlooked because you picture granny driving them down the highway at 80KM/h or something.
If you want it more versatile they come in a wagon too . . . it’s enormous.
Everyone I talk to laughs at me when I say one of my favorite cars is the Taurus. I have no idea why, especially when they get in and I floor it and you get responses like ‘what the heck kind of engine do you have in there’. I respond with ‘It’s a bone stock Taurus’.
It’s not too big to be a boat, it’s not so small that you can’t fit 5 people in it (6 with the console shifter and fold-able front seat). We even fit 2 car seats and 1 small person in the back of ours quite often. It’s not incredibly comfortable like that, but without a hummer sized vehicle it’s about as good as it gets.
